The Transition Roadmap Challenge Results

Five Student Pioneers Paint the Pathway Forward to Sustainable Super Abundance!!

Following the publication of our first online book, The Great Transition to Sustainable Super Abundance, we concluded that a post-scarity world of high universal income, in which we bring an end to poverty, hunger, disease, and the need to work, is technologically feasible.

However, we also cautioned that the futurists painting this wonderful picture of the future made no real attempt to explain how we would transition from a world where 193 competing nations states, informed by a zero-sum, winner-take-all, scarcity mindset who are also armed to the teeth spending $2.9 trillion every eyar on military expenditures would suddently drop their arms stop competing and come together to create the needed change.

We argued that to transition from today’s hypercompetitive world to the world of Sustainable Super Abundance we would need to develop a human wisdom commensurate with our technology and come up with a concrete plan to get us from here to there.

We then launched a pilot project asking student groups from the schools we serve to fill the gap left by the futurists and develop a plan that would get us from Here – 193 competing nation-states to There – Sustainable Super Abundance.

As you can imagine, this was quite a big ask and a daunting task, but we are thrilled to let you know that two intrepid, courageous groups of students took up this challenge, one group from China and the other from the US.

Their contributions, as you can see below, were first class.  They framed the opportunity and developed much-needed solutions that humanity would do well to follow.   And while the two groups did not work together, they did come up with similar solutions, the principal one being the urgent call for improved global regulation.

We have included both the recordings and presentations produced by these students below for your review.

I want to take this opportunity to personally thank our pioneers – Le, Pauline,   Ben and Christian for their efforts.   As promised not only wlll they receive a One World Certificate of Outstanding Global Citizenship, their names will be included in the forward to our next book in our Cosmic Choice series The Great Acceleration.

The importance of the work conducted by our pioneers was highlighted this week by none other than Bill Gates, who wrote an essay entitled, “The turbulent era is here. The choices we make are now critical.”   He starts the essay telling us that we need to know that

“The transition to the AI era will be one of the most turbulent times in human history. Right now, we are not preparing adequately for that transition. If the world takes the right steps, AI will be a force for good and leave everyone better off.”

He goes on to explain that AI will either be the greatest equalizer or the worst, and getting this turbulent transition right should be humanity’s top priority:

“In terms of equity, AI will either be the greatest equalizer ever invented, or the worst source of injustice. The challenge is monumental. Even under the best circumstances, the transition to this new AI era will be one of the most turbulent times in human history. How will we use this technology to make the world a fairer place and keep it from widening the divide between rich and poor? How will we protect the people who are most vulnerable to the harms caused by artificial intelligence, including those who lose their livelihoods and the sense that they are in control of their future?

I believe that answering these questions and acting on the answers should be the world’s top priority. If the world takes the right steps, AI will be a force for good and leave everyone better off.”

We wholeheartedly agree with Bill Gates’s conclusions, which is why we have quoted extensively from his essay.  Indeed, helping K12 educators prepare for this unprecedented, civilization-changing transition is our number one goal at One World.

To that end, we intend to launch our global conversation on the future of humanity much earlier this year and with more structure.   We are encouraging every one of the schools we work with to launch an AI Tech Club.   We will provide your club advisors and students with the key concepts and information they will need to run your club.   We will also provide a series of webinars and opportunities to exchange ideas as well as coach those interested in building an informed transition to a world without poverty, hunger, disease and the need to work.
