We are pleased to announce the winners of One World’s pilot Global Stock Market Contest, which brought together participants from around the world to test their investment skills and learn firsthand how global markets work.
For much of the competition, One World Chief Marketing Officer Doug French held the lead with a disciplined buy-and-hold strategy as markets rallied.
For one brief week, I managed to move into first place following a well-timed investment in Tesla. That lead did not last long. Tesla pulled back sharply in early June, as did my investment in Brazilian oil producer Petrobras as tensions surrounding the Iran War appeared to stabilize
Using an impressive short-term investment strategy, Winston Lagat and Samuel Njinu of Kenya surged into first and second place by June 18. Both successfully identified technology stocks that rallied strongly during the first three weeks of June following an earlier market sell-off.
Congratulations to Winston Lagat, our champion, and Samuel Njinu, our runner-up!
Winston and Samuel have generously shared the thinking behind their investment decisions. You can read about their approach here:

Our third-place finisher was Jorge Genchi Estrada of Mexico, whose portfolio gained just over 5%.
At One World, we have long believed that the stock market provides a remarkable window to the future. It encourages students to think about technology, economics, geopolitics, companies, industries, and the forces shaping tomorrow’s world. Winston, Samuel, Jorge, and all of our participants demonstrated exactly what this contest is intended to encourage: curiosity, research, critical thinking, and informed decision-making.
Congratulations to all of our participants—and especially to our winners from Kenya and Mexico.
We look forward to welcoming students and participants from around the world to our next Global Stock Market Contest, beginning in mid-October.
Best regards,
Joe
