The Westchester Green County’s 100 School Challenge officially launched on April 1st, 2025. This challenge encourages schools and groups around the world to take sustainable action throughout the month of April, competing for one of three cash prizes.
Some groups have already been taking ongoing action to protect their communities and the planet. The Department of Educational Research and Innovation (DIIE) in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, operates under the Undersecretary of Basic Education and focuses on Science and Environment initiatives.
In Science, DIIE leads projects like My First Invention, National Science and Technology Week, and Night of the Stars. The Environmental initiative promotes sustainability through events like Earth Day and World Water Day, encouraging students and the public to protect natural resources. As part of this effort, DIIE collaborates with One World on an ongoing project to foster global environmental awareness.
The department offers educational workshops, keynote conferences, radio broadcasts, reforestation campaigns, school visits, and student tours of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (PTAR). Leading the environmental efforts are Angela Memije Alarcón, Mayra Disnarda Vargas Méndez, and Natividad Bello Valencia.
