Dear One World Friends

One World’s reason for being, or our overriding purpose, has come into sharp focus over the course of the last three years.

In March 2023, we wrote that the three obvious emerging civilizational threats facing humanity were far too obvious to continue to ignore.  They were climate change, nuclear war and AI.

March 2023 post

In response, we created a class we called Architects of Abundance where we encouraged students to use design thinking to overcome at least one of the three civilizational threats facing humanity.

In November 2023, something very positive happened in that it became clear to us that dramatic advances in technology seemed to have provided our world with a capacity to create a post-scarcity world of radical abundance, where we bring an end to poverty, hunger, and even the need to work.  Fast forward to 2026, and it seems increasingly clear that as trillions of dollars get invested in building out AI infrastructure, this post-scarcity world of Sustainable Super Abundance is technologically feasible.

That is the conclusion we came to after extensively researching this possibility.   You can review our findings in our first online book which you can access here: The Great Transition

You can also listen to this 15-minutes:  Podcast of the Book

We are thrilled with this new revelation as it provides us with an extremely positive end goal and gets us past solely discussing the risks to our world.

While we have concluded that a world without poverty, hunger, disease and the need to work are technologically feasible, we have also concluded that our global society is poortly prepared for the “supersonic technology tsunami” heading our way.

It is not clear to us how we go from 193 nation-states armed to the teeth spending $2.7 trillion every year on military spending to the post-scarcity world of high universal income predicted by the technologists.  Nor have the technologists made any real effort to put forward a plan of how we get from where we are today to the world of abundance they predict.

Our conclusion is clear, we need to urgently collaborate across the planet to build a human wisdom commensurate with our technology.   To that end we are calling on K-12 educators from across the world to join us in a conversation on the future of humanity.

In his extraordinary book, “The Meaning of the 21st Century: A Vital Blueprint for Ensuring Our Future,” technologist James Martin called for the creation of a Transition Generation because as he explained

The job of today’s young people, or the Transition Generation, will be to get humanity through the coming period of chaos, peril, and opportunity. A massive transition is needed, and the agenda should be created for the generation that will bring about this transition.

This is precisely the goal of our Future of Humanity Conversation to create an agenda for the massive transition that is needed.   We are going to need more than the technologists to get involved if we are going to find ways to successfully transition from the world we have inherited to the world technology is making available to us.   We are going to need people from every segment of society to join the conversation.

Again as Martin made clear when he wrote the book in 2006 we need to provide K-12 educators and youth with a foundation for making wise choices:

“Today’s young people will collectively determine whether civilization survives or not. We need to give them a foundation for making wise choices by helping them understand humankind’s likely possible, probable, and preferred futures. What can humanity become? Our future wealth will increasingly relate to knowledge in the broadest sense of the term.”

If you are interested in joining our conversation on the future of humanity and what we can become if we all pull together, please contact us at info@oneworlduv.com to learn more.

Best regards,

Joe
