The Future of Humanity

A One World Global Conversation

Join Us in the Great Transition Roadmap Challenge: From Scarcity to Super Abundance

As part of our Global Conversation Series, One World Future Ready invites you to join in on our “Great Transition Challenge: From Scarcity to Abundance” – a free 5-part global webinar experience. This brings together students, educators, experts and engaged citizens to explore how emerging AI technologies can impact the future of humanity – and if used wisely and ethically, can potentially bring an end to poverty, hunger, disease, and reshape how and why we need to work.

Sessions run through June 20th

The Great Transition Challenge

We believe the coming decade will be the most consequential period in human history.

After more than 250 years of accelerating technological progress, humanity now faces a wave of change unlike anything we have experienced before. According to Lord Demis Hassabis, co-founder of Google DeepMind, the technological transformation now underway could be ten times more powerful than the Industrial Revolution  and it is unfolding ten times faster.

We are hoping to facilitate a global conversation where we explore ways for all of us to better prepare for this unprecedented 100x fold challenge coming our way. Moreover, many AI futurists tell us that these dramatic advances in technology could enable humanity to build a post-scarcity world — a world of widespread prosperity where poverty, hunger, disease, and even the necessity of work could eventually be eliminated.

In our first online book, The Great Transition, we conclude that such a future is technologically feasible. However, we also believe that this future will not emerge automatically. It will require thoughtful planning, global cooperation, and the active participation of people around the world in designing the pathways that lead us there.

To help address this challenge, One World is inviting K–12 educators, students, and global citizens to participate in a worldwide dialogue on the future of humanity that we are calling the Great Transition Roadmap Challenge.

The reason for this awkward sounding name is because the futurists paint a clear picture of the future but they do not tell us how we transition from here – a world of scarcity where 193 competing nations states are armed to the teeth operating under a  Zero Sum mindset to the utopian future envisioned by the futurists.   In order to make this transition we need your help which is why we are facilitating this global conversation.

Through this international learning experience, participants will have the opportunity to:

Participation is flexible. We understand that everyone has different schedules and commitments, so this initiative is designed to function much like an asynchronous learning experience. Participants may engage at their own pace and at the level that works best for them.

One World Future Ready brings together a truly global community, connecting participants from China, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Brazil, the United States, and beyond to explore the most important questions shaping our shared future.

You are welcome to:

While individual participation is welcome, we encourage participants to work in small teams, as collaboration often leads to stronger ideas and solutions. If you are joining on your own, we will gladly help connect you with a team.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation from One World.

These conversations will also contribute to the development of a second online book building on the insights generated through this global dialogue. Participants who wish to have their contributions considered for inclusion may submit a 3–5 page summary of their roadmap or findings, which will be presented during the final webinar on June 20.
