The Technology Singularity is on the Horizon!!! We Need to Act Now!!!

Dear One World Friends

One thing is abundantly clear: the pace of change continues to accelerate.    The pace of change has been accelerating at a faster and faster rate from 1900 up until today.   If I had told you in 1900 that human beings would learn to fly and walk on the moon, you would have thought I was crazy.

What is clear to me today and has been since the publication of our book last April, is that we are now living through a double exponential rate of change.

Just to be clear, our human society has been having difficulty keeping up with a pace of change that was best measured by Moore’s Law, where computing capacity doubled every 2 years or 32x per decade.  If a Volkswagen car had been transformed in the same way computing capacity has been changed by Moore’s Law, the car would drive at a speed of 300,000 miles an hour, get 3 million miles to the gallon, and cost 4 cents.

Now try and imagine a world where computing capacity doubles every 6 months instead of every two years. That translates into a one-million-fold increase over 10 years.   If we had difficulty keeping up with the 32-fold increase caused by Moore’s Law, how are we going to keep a one million-fold increase in AI compute over the next ten years?

To add to the challenge, Google’s Quantum Computer recently completed a random circuit sampling benchmark in five minutes that would take today’s best supercomputers 10 septillion (10^25) years or the equivalent of 725 trillion Big Bangs!   Quantum Computing

Moreover, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai recently explained that Quantum Computing today is where AI was five years ago and that Quantum Computing will be where AI is today in five years.

These daunting numbers make me think that the Technology Singularity could be fast approaching. Claude AI describes the Technological Singularity as follows:

“The technological singularity refers to a hypothetical future point when technological growth becomes so rapid and profound that it fundamentally transforms human civilization in ways we cannot predict or comprehend from our current vantage point.

A black hole has an event horizon—a boundary beyond which nothing, not even light, can escape, and beyond which we cannot observe what happens. Similarly, the technological singularity would represent an intellectual “event horizon” beyond which we cannot predict or understand events because the pace of change is approaching infinity.”

Previously, I had always thought that this concept was more science fiction than reality, even after covering these concepts in depth in Chapters One and Two of our book The Great Transitionwhich I highly recommend you read or at a minimum listen to this 15-minute   Podcast of the Book

Since writing our book, it has become increasingly clear that we are living through the fastest part of the exponential curve where 97% of the change takes place before reaching infinity.

(The best way to understand the accelerating 97% per cent of the change, is to look at this penny doubling exercise:

One really straightforward way to understand exponential change is understand how far one can walk with 30 linear steps – from the front of the room to the back of the room – vs 30 exponential steps, where after 30 doublings you get to one billion steps, enabling one to circumnavigate the globe 26x.

Understanding this gap – between linear 30 steps and circumnavigating the globe 26x – is the central challenge facing educators and our global community as it is the difference between linear thinking and exponential thinking and technology is definitely growing at an exponential rate.

The futurists tell us that we will experience the equivalent of 20,000 years of change in our lifetime.

If I am honest as many times as I have shared these mind-boggling numbers, I have always had difficulty getting my head around these numbers and their impact, given their magnitude.

I was therefore thrilled to learn in this YouTube video that one of humanity’s foremost technologists Elon Musk has the same difficulty getting his brain around the extraordinary technological breakthroughs coming our way.    In minute 1:16 of this video he too marvels at the Supersonic  Tsunami coming our way:

“I don’t just have courtside seats I am on the court, and it still blows my mind, sometime multiple times a week.  And so Just when I think wow, then its like two days later more wow,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSNuB9pj9P8

It is precisely this kind of exponential thinking we share in our book, driving our belief that a world of Sustainable Super Abundance is indeed technologically achievable, if, if, if we can learn to come together and use these dramatic advances in technology for the good of humanity.

The other abundantly clear message to come out of this lengthy video is that in spite of the unprecedented enormous potential for good, there is a “massiver under reaction” to the potential technology opportunity coming our way.

In minute 1:18:48, Peter Diamandis wonders about this massive underreaction.

“It is like we are headed to a Supersonic Tsunami, and every major CEO, economist and government leader should be like well what do we do?” When in fact this is not even a conversation that has hit the mainstream.

The end goal of One World is very clear we want to bring this conversation into the mainstream as we make crystal clear in our book and in this 15 minute:

Podcast of the Book

As we head into 2026, our fervent goal will be to generate a conversation on the future of humanity via the Global Coalition for Sustainable Super Abundance we are hoping to build with your help.   Our goal is to generate a widespread, robust conversation where we encourage K12 educators, municipal officials, and local businesses to engage in this conversation and develop a strategy for your community.

We hope that we can come together and learn how to surf this Supersonic Wave of opportunity to a post-scarcity world where we bring an end to poverty, hunger, disease, and the need to work.   If we are going to be successful, we all need to engage in this cosmic conversation.

With sincere wishes for a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year
