Dear One World Friends,

Please join us tomorrow Saturday, February 28th at 8 am EST for the most important conversation we have generated in our 12-year history.

You can register for what we hope will be a transformative series of conversations here:

THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY – One World United & Virtuous

In our last email ahead of tomorrow’s talk global thought leader Yuval Noah Hararri has done a great job framing the conversation we are hoping to promote in this YouTube video:

https://youtube.com/shorts/PD-oeAcY1H0?si=vrZH-4oqMYQMLbBu

He starts by explaining that for “the first time in history we really have no idea what the job market will look like in ten years.  Which means we don’t know what to teach young people”

We have long argued that K12 educators are being challenged as never before as they are being asked to prepare their students for a world that no one understands for jobs that do not yet exist.   One goal of this global conversation will be to work with K12 youth and educators to collaborate to begin build a common foundation from which each of us can draw their own conclusions.

Hararai goes on to explain that while AI may indeed have the very powerful positive impact on all humans over time, the real challenge will be to endure a smooth transition starting today.

“In history the problem with revolutionary technology is often not the destination or the outcome of the revolution.  The problem is the way there.

If you look at the technology of the Industrial Revolution, the steam engines, electricity, the internal combustion engine in the end we can conclude that the industrial sociétés were better off than the agrarian societies that came before.   They  now have a lot more prosperity.   Even the common workers usually now have a better life.”

But when the industrial revolution first emerged people did not know how to build industrial sociétés and huge mistakes were made and there was huge inequality between those who adopted the technology first and those that came later.  And we saw for instance that in the 19th Century the few countries that industrialized first conquered and exploited the whole world for a century or more.

This can happen again with AI.   AI can create big inequalities within society and also even bigger inequalities between different countries.  If just a few countries most clearly, the USA and China, monopolize the AI there will be a lot of wealth and a lot of jobs in California or in Shenzhen but very few jobs anywhere else

So the question is not just what will be the final destination of the AI Revolution the question is how do make sure the road there is a good road that is beneficial to everybody not just a few people in a few countries.

We have called for this conversation to begin to think about how humanity can best prepare for the Tech Wave of Opportunity and Challenge racing our way.

We hope to see you tomorrow.

Best regards,

Joe
