Edison School, 4th grade club

Port Chester, New York, USA

OVERVIEW

The 4th grade One Word club consists of students age 8 and 9 and is made of of 11 members. This is the the first year this cohort has been participating in One World and has been doing a wonderful job learning new things about the world and how to be better overall students and individuals.

One World Projects

The club as a whole has focused on topics of Friendship and kindness this year and has helped promote kindness around the entire school by taking the Great Kindness challenge, and “catching” students, staff, and other personnel in random acts of kindness. They are great ambassadors for the club and are sure to tell the students in the younger grades what a great opportunity it is to be in One World. The 4th graders are excited to become the leaders of the school next year and are ready to take on the responsibility. The 4th grade helped the 5th grade club with the great kindness challenge and the global service project of collecting kind Coins for Pakistan.

Our club participated in the One World Core Values Activity. Our club decided on justice, respect, honesty, and effort. These were all discussed and decided upon by the members of the club. As their first year in One World they chose to to have Effort, Honesty, and Respect particularly because they wanted to really try and make an effort be good global citizens and participate as much as possible with what One World has to offer. They stated they would be honest when they needed help and didn’t understand material as well helping non- one world members understand the importance of respect and honesty. As for Justice, they decided that with all that is happening around the United States and world that Justice would be a great core value and topic to emphasize.

It is so nice to see that the students in One World are so inclusive of all the children in the school and so eager to share what they are working on with One World. -Kelly Brucale, Advisor

We had so much fun meeting the One World Advisors who were visiting from Wales!

We learned that they speak Welsh, English and Chinese in their school! We are going to Skype with them and they are going to teach us some words in Welsh and we are going to teach them some Spanish!
