Africa: A cruel contrast
The drought which has resulted in famine conditions in East Africa is also plaguing several West and Central African nations. The failure of crops will affect an estimated 18 million people, and aid agencies anticipate the crisis to exceed that which occurred in the region in 2010, reports Agence France Presse.
UNICEF recently issued another plea for food assistance in the hope to stemming the crisis in the Sahel, which encompasses six nations.
The cruel irony is that in recent weeks, the African Development Bank, McKinsey , and the World Bank have issued reports detailing the positive economic growth on the Continent.
