Journalists killed in Syrian shelling, fighting rages on
Two journalists, one American and the other French, were killed on Tuesday in the Babr Amr area of Syria, according to activists, on a day when more than 20 others were killed in fighting.
Frustrated by the inability of the UN to address the situation, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to the region to join in Friends of Syria talks in Tunisia. While the Obama administration had asserted it did not want to arm the rebels, events on the ground may be altering its position.
“If we can’t get [President] Assad to yield to the pressure that we are all bringing to bear, we may have to consider additional measures,” said State Department official Victoria Nuland.
Several nations, including Lebanon, will not attend the talks in Tunisia.
