Wall Street Unoccupied
The protesters in Zuccotti Park are not the only people occupying the sidewalks outside of Wall Street. Faced with higher capital standards and lower proprietary trades, many financial firms are kicking staff onto the street.
In fact, according to Bloomberg News, the financial services indsutry has trimmed more than 200,000 jobs in 2011. While the indsutry rebounded after the 2008 financial crisis, there is greater doubt that with increased regulation and a continuing recession the hiring will begin anytime soon.
